Broken: Yale snaps Trinity's 252-game win streak

Since 1998, Trinity men's squash team have been untouchable racking up 252 consecutive wins and have been crowned National Champions 13-times in a row - the longest win streak in intercollegiate history. On January 18, 2012, the Yale Bulldogs rallied through the Bantams on their home turf in New Haven.

Yale began the bombardment of wins early with captain Ryan Dowd (Belmont Hill '08), junior Hywel Robinson, and Neil Martin posting W's in the No. 5, No. 2, No. 6 games, respectively. The Bulldogs went into the final four matches with a 3-2 lead when things got interesting. Yale's Samuel Clayman fought hard against Matthew Mackin (Brunswick '10) but ended up at the short end of the No.8 game. Pushing the Bantams into a 4-3 lead was senior Vikram Malhotra. The last two games were the No. 7 Robert Berner (Y) vs Juan Flores (TC) and the No. 4 John Roberts (Y) vs Johan Detter (TC).

Both Trinity players surged ahead winning their respective games but the Berner and Detter responded by tying up both games to 1-1. Berner pushed ahead to a 2-1 lead and capped the final game with a dominating 11-6 over Flores. Then, with the match at 4-4, all eyes were on Roberts vs. Detter. The crowd grew anxious in the third game when Roberts took an early lead and sealed the match with a 10-4 victory - clinching the match.
