Mark Efinger to Head Charlemont

The Academy at Charlemont concluded 2011 in high hopes as it completed its search for Head of School. Mark E. Efinger, a Phillips Academy graduate '74 turned faculty member, will take the reigns as the 4th Head of School at Charlemont in July 2012. He is the first Head to be brought in externally.

Mark brings demonstrated fundraising, management, and marketing experience. He is creative, an engaging storyteller, and a strategic thinker – all of which will be critical to the Academy’s continued success.  He has already undertaken a constructive and intelligent review of our programs and resources and has offered new ideas that are sensitive to the school’s history, culture, and location.
-David Epstein '87, Chair, Academy Trustees

Since 1993, Mark has been a faculty member at Andover and has served as chairmen of the theatre and dance department, program manager for acting and dancing, and is the assistant wrestling coach. Prior to working at Andover, Mark worked in the private sector. He received his BA in Theatre from Middlebury College and his MFA in Theatre (Directing) from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

The Academy at Charlemont is a private day-school for grades 7-PG. The school prides itself on community-oriented learning and a classical academic course load - it currently enrolls 110 students. The Academy was founded in 1981 and is located in Western Massachusetts.
